Participants gave a huge thumbs-up to Australia-based internal communications expert Lorri Lennon for her recent master class in Wellington.
Lorri’s session, entitled Closing the gap: A roadmap for strategic communication, was organised by the IABC Wellington branch and held on 9 October. The 29 communications professionals who took part used adjectives like “fantastic,” “inspiring,” “strategic,” “thought-provoking” and “practical” to describe the day-long event.
This testimonial, from Matt Huntington of the Labour Department, was typical of the feedback:
“Lorri was a confident and energetic speaker and her wealth of experience in communications was immediately apparent. The day included a good mix of lecture, small group activities, discussion and written material, making sure all learning styles were addressed. The takeaway resources provided by Lorri were relevant and practical. I have already used one of the templates in my work and can see myself turning to the book, “Tactics in a Box,” on a regular basis in the future.
Perhaps the best testament to the quality of this master class was the common positive response by attendees. We left the day inspired! Thank you to the IABC team for organising this master class with Lorri Lennon.”
Michael Mead of the Department of Internal Affairs also got a lot from the session, noting:
“In a wider sense Lorri challenged us to think of ourselves differently. We’re not just the people who put the words together either written or spoken. We are ‘change agents’, we have the ability to have an impact beyond our role as communicators because of the way we think about the business of the organisation. When you make that transformation that’s when you become part of the business and are able to have the most powerful effect on how things are done.”
